Episode 48 - 'Holy Matrimony!'
[Ash, Misty, and Brock come across a sign in the road they are walking down] Ash: Look, a poster. Missing? Misty: Is that? Ash: It looks like... Brock: It can't be... All: James!?
'Holy Matrimony!'
[A limo pulls up and a butler, using a megaphone, talks to them] Hopkins: Have you seen that boy in the photo. Ash: We have if he's James from Team Rocket. Hopkins: Jolly good eureka! Quick to the estate! [He drags them into the car, before Jessie, James and Meowth approach the sign.] Jessie: Mmm, this kid looks a lot like you. James: You think so? He looks pathetic. Meowth: That's what she means James! Jessie: Right, we'd better go investigate. Meowth: Yeah! [Jessie and Meowth take off... James stays where he is] James: Oh... Jessie: James! Meowth: What are you waiting for? James: Oh, I'll just stay here. Jessie & Meowth: Oh no you won't! [Jessie and Meowth pick up James and carry him off] James: [screams]
Ash: Hey mister, how much further it this place? Hopkins: We're almost at the end of the driveway. Misty: Seems like we drove past the main gate half an hour ago. [Out of a window they can see a large mansion] Ash: Look at that! Misty: It's huge! Brock: Mmm-hmm, I've seen shopping malls smaller than that place. All: Wow! Ash: It's the biggest mansion I've ever seen! Misty: It must have one hundred rooms! Hopkins: That's not the mansion. That little dog house is for Growlie, the favourite Pokémon of Master James. That building is the Master's mansion. [To the left there is an even bigger mansion, and they all fall down in an anime way] Hopkins: Please, follow me. [They go into the house. Behind them, Jessie, James, and Meowth watch on] Jessie: Oh wow! Meowth: Yeah! Jessie: We're in the lap of luxury! Jessie & Meowth: We've hit the jackpot!
Misty: Coffins? Was there a funeral here? Hopkins: My Master and Mistress had only one child, a boy named James. This morning his parents passed away and now this whole estate belongs to him. Ash: You mean this whole estate is gonna belong to James? [Team Rocket are in a conduit listening in] Jessie & Meowth: Ahh! Jessie: James! Meowth: Is this place really yours? James: I suppose so... Hopkins: It's so frightfully tragic, after Master James ran away, his parents no longer had the will to go on. Their hearts were broken. Misty: That's so sad. Ash: I hope you find James real soon to tell him. Hopkins: Real soon won't do! His parents will clearly states he
must marry his fiancé within 24 hours of their passing away
or the estate will be donated to charity.
Ash: We should help look for James. Misty: What?! Why should we help him after ALL the trouble he's caused us? Brock: He may want to come to his parents funeral, after all, it's his last chance to say goodbye to them. Misty: I never thought about it like that, but how are we gonna find him in just one day? [they hear screams from above] James: NO! NEVER! Jessie: Careful James! [T.R. falls off of the roof] James: Ahh!!!! No! Never! No way! Brock: Stop that! James' parents just passed away. Ash: He's gotta come to their funeral! James: NEVER! Uh, oh... Jessie: Look James, we're becoming very annoyed with you. Meowth: Don't you wanna be the richest guy in the world? James: I don't know. I feel like my head is splitting! I can't remember anything that's happened! Misty: What's wrong? Brock: Maybe James has amnesia. James: It's all a blur to me. I remember flunking out of Pokémon Tech and joining a bicycle gang. I only remember one scene before that. [Flashback to James' childhood] It was a dark and stormy night. A boy was wandering far from home with his loyal Growlith, Growlie. They were both freezing and they hadn't eaten in days. Young James: Ah, Growlie, I'm not going to make it. Leave me alone and save yourself. [James falls into the snow, and looks up to see a stained glass window with angels on it] The angels have come for me. Farewell, I leave this cruel world for a better place. Remember me, Growl.....uh. Growlie: [Growlie howls] [The flashback ends] James: And then the boy departed this world. Little Growlie howled all night. The boy was found frozen solid in the morning. [Everyone cries apart from Misty] Jessie: That's such a sad ending. Meowth: The poor kid. Brock: I can't believe James is gone! Ash: I miss him... Pikachu: Piiiiiiiii..... Misty: Argh! James is standing right here! James: [First happily and then confused] Oh, that's right! Ah! I'm All mixed up! Jessie: Who cares? It doesn't matter what you remember, just take the cash. Ash: But James can't get his inheritance unless he marries some girl in the next 24 hours. Jessie: Then we'll fake a wedding and scram with the money. James: That's ridiculous! Jessie: Ridiculous? Ha! This whole estate will be yours! Meowth: Yeah, yeah! James: I won't do it! Jessie: He's weakening. Meowth: He'll see it our way [Jessie and Meowth lasso James]. James: Let me go, I don't want to! Ash: You can't make him. Brock: He should be free to decide who he does or doesn't want to marry. Jessie: Put a sock in it! Meowth: Yeah, keep your dumb opinions to yourself! Ash, Misty, Brock & Pikachu: Awww.
Meowth: This is great! Jessie: These invisible costumes are perfect! [Jessie uses James hand to knock on the door] Hopkins: Coming. Ash: They won't fool that butler. Hopkins: Can I help you, sir? Jessie: [impersonating James] It's me, James. I've come back. Hopkins: Welcome home sir! [They go inside] Your parents will be most pleased to see that you've returned. Please, come in. Jessie: [Still in James' voice] Thank you. Ash: They wouldn't have fooled me. Hopkins: Everything is fine now Masters, your little boy has returned home. Jessie: [as James again] Oh mommy, daddy it's true. I've come home at long last to get my money. Hopkins: Huh? Jessie: Uhh, I mean... Meowth: You're blowing it... Jessie: [as James] I'm going to get married just like it says in your will- and I want cash, not a cheque. Hopkins: What's that? Jessie: [as you guessed, as James] I mean I'm only joking of course. Ha, ha. Oh mom and dad, I wish I had come back sooner. [Laughing is heard coming from coffins.] Meowth: What's that? [James' Mother and Father come out of their coffins.] James' Father: Prepare for trouble! James' Mother: Yes dear, and make it double! Jessie: But they're... Meowth: Ghosts! James' Mother: Oh James, we're so happy you've come back home. James' Father: And you're wearing a suit! Jessie: They're either alive- Meowth: Or they're real solid ghosts! James: [Taking the gag from his mouth] They aren't ghosts you furry imbecile! It's just like them to pull a stunt like this to make me come home. Meowth: Does that mean- Jessie: You really don't have amnesia? James: [Trying to keep his lie going] Oh, who am I? Where am I? James' Father: Why you're James and you're about to be married. James' Mother: Hopkins, begin the preparations. Hopkins: Yes Master. [Hopkins picks up Jessie, James & Meowth and carries them upstairs] James: I've got to escape. Jessie: Oh no James, you're tying the knot. Meowth: Jessie means you're tying the noose! [Ash, Misty, Brock & Pikachu have been watching everything] Brock: So this whole thing was a trap so that James would get married. James' Father: I'm proud of you. You realized you must uphold the family tradition. James' Mother: As out only son and heir you have certain obligations, the most important of them being to marry and continue the family line. Jessie: [Covering James' mouth again] Right. James: [breaks free] Do I have a duty to be manipulated?! James' Father: I don't know what you're talking about. James' Mother: As your parents we only want what's best for us, I mean, best for you. James' Father: A man who can't settle down is like a bumble bee without a nose- he'll never sniff the daffodils of life. James' Mother: You'll learn to be a real gentleman once you settle down and marry the right girl- and here she is. Jessie & Meowth: Huh? James' Mother: As James' wife it'll be your duty to turn him from a worthless do-nothing into a respectable gentleman. Jessiebelle: As you wish, Mother. Meowth: Meowth, her voice is like catnip to my ears! Now that's what I call a lady, not a tough, mean, nasty girl like Jessie. Jessie: Urgh. I'll show you tough, mean and nasty. Jessiebelle: My name's Jessiebelle, my only wish is to be your loving wife and companion. And also, to educate you in becoming a gentleman of property. [Jessiebelle removes her fan that hid her face to reveal that she looks just like...Jessie!] All: Wahhh!!!!! Jessie: Ah! Meowth: She looks like Jessie! James: [screams again]
Who's That Pokémon? It's Vilplume!
Jessie: How dare you compare me to that wimp? Meowth: Are you kidding? You both have exactly the same face. Jessie: We do not. James: Would you stop arguing, we've got to get out of here right now! Jessie: Don't be ridiculous, how can we get your inheritance if you don't go through with it? Meowth: If you won't do it for yourself, do it for the Team! We're counting on you to make us all filthy stinking rich! James: Forget the Team! I'm not doing it, I'm not doing it, I'm not! Jessiebelle: Is something wrong? Why ever do you keep talking to yourself like that James? Ash: Talking to yourself? Misty: Meowth and Jessie are right in front of their eyes and nobody notices. Jessiebelle: Say, here's an idea. Let's go down to the vault and count all the money you'll inherit. [They begin to walk down a set of stairs to the vault] Jessiebelle: After you disappeared, your Mother and Father were so worried about you, as was I of course. But I knew one day you'd come back to me. James: [Tries to talk but fails] Jessie: [As James] I'm sorry for running away, but everything is going to be just fine now that I'm back here with my money. Jessiebelle: What? Jessie: Duh, I mean back here with you. Misty: Hmmm.... Jessiebelle: Here we are at the vault, let's go inside, your inheritance is in here. Jessie: Cha-ching! [They enter the vault - but it is really just a weird looking gym] Huh? Meowth: Ah! What's all this junk?! Jessie: What kind of inheritance is this? Meowth: It looks like a lot of weird gym equipment. James: Don't you fools get it? Jessiebelle tricked you into coming down here! Meowth: How'd she spot us? James: Imbeciles! [Sound of a drum] Team Rocket: Huh? James' Father: Your Mother and I are tired of waiting for you to grow up. [Sound of a flute] James' Mother: James, it's time to face the music. [Sound of a whip cracking] Jessiebelle: You can't do whatever you feel like anymore, now you obey - Jessiebelle! Let the taming begin! Meowth: I'm starting to like you more than her. Jessie: Thanks for the compliment. [Jessie begins to pull Meowth from her head, but then everyone looks at the two] Meowth: They see us! Jessie: Everything was fine till you opened that big Meowth of yours. James' Father: Do you take us for fools? James' Mother: We just ignored you until you brought James down here. Meowth: Now they see us- Jessie: And now they don't. [Jessie throws a smoke bomb, and they disappear] James: Jessie, Meowth, don't leave me! [A whip cracks near his face, and he screams] Jessiebelle: At last, we're together, I'm so happy! James: [he screams and tries to run] Jessiebelle: You're not going to escape from me this time James! Hi-ya! [She chases him about the room slashing her
whip, destroying James' Father: Those two were made for each other, just like you and I, my precious. James' Mother: It's a perfect match. James: If you two weren't such lousy parents, you'd stop this madwoman! [There is more whipping and screaming.] Ash: Shouldn't we try to help him? Brock: Ah, I don't like t o get involved in these little family squabbles. [Jessiebelle tangles James' ankles up in her whip and he falls] Jessiebelle: Oh James, I just knew you fall for me! I choose you, Vileplume! Vileplume: Vileplume. Ash: [pulls out Pokedex] Hey, what's that? Dexter: Vileplume, the flower Pokémon. Using the largest flower petals in the world, it spreads large clouds of pollen that cause allergic reactions. Jessiebelle: Now Vileplume, use your Stun Spore to slow James down and keep him from escaping! Vileplume: Vileplume! [Vilplume uses Stun Spore and a cloud fills the room] James: Oh! This is just like...this is just like...last time [falls asleep]. Ash: Ohhh...Stun...Spore. Pikachu: Piiiiii. [The group also fall asleep] Jessiebelle: Sleepin' like a baby. James my sweet, I'll make a gentleman of you yet, even if it destroys us! Hopkins? Hopkins: Yes? Jessiebelle: Would you please get a large broom and sweep up this mess? Hopkins: Yes. [Hopkins picks up Ash and co under one arm,
and Jessie and
Brock: Well, like they say, even a rose has it thorns. Misty: She's more like a cactus! Jessie: If he marries her, James gets his inheritance. [Try hear the sound of a cracking whip and of
James' screaming. Meowth: If he survives being married to her. [They hear a dog's growl from the 'small' mansion] Ash: Hey, what's that? Pikachu: Pika pi, Pikachu pika, piiii! Ash: What's that? Meowth: It wants to be let out of the dog house. Ash: [pulls at door but it doesn't budge] Okay. It's locked, come one, give me a hand. Misty: Okay. Brock: Sure Ash. [they all pull and with help of Growlith head
butting the door, Ash: What's that?
Jessiebelle: James, it's time for the wedding! James: [Screams] Growlie! [Growlie runs down the stairs and jumps in front of James.] Growlie: Growlith! James: Growlie! Jessiebelle: Oh no! Now who let you in here? Vileplume, get rid of this horrid thing. Vileplume: Vileplume! [uses stun spore again] James: Run Growlie! [Growlie picks up James on his back and escapes through a window with him] Jessiebelle: Where are you going? Don't leave! [Ash, Misty, Brock, Jessie, Meowth and Pikachu stand outside the door of the 'doghouse'] Meowth: Growlie says to go inside! [They go but Jessiebelle stands on the roof watching] Jessiebelle: I'll follow you to the end of the earth and the bottom of the sea, James dearest. [Inside, they all sit and talk] James: You saved my life Growlie, thank you. Growlie: Growl, growl. [licks James' face] James: Oh! That tickles Growlie! Jessie: Well James, that fiancee of yours is truly despicable. Meowth: Told you she was just like Jessie! Jessie: Gr, I'll make your mouth even bigger! James: She's the reason I ran away from this estate, oh, what a rotten day. As soon as my engagement to Jessiebelle was announced she began to follow me everywhere, trying to change me. Nothing I did was refined enough for her. [Yet another flashback to when James and Jessiebelle
are about ten. Young James: Please, leave me alone! I can't stand it! Growlie! Growlie: [comes out from it's house] Growlith. Young Jessiebelle: Where you going James? I haven't finished teaching you the correct way to eat spaghetti yet! Young James: I wanna do things my way, Jessiebelle! Young Jessiebelle: You're not running properly, let me show you the right way! [The flashback ends] James: Ever since I was a kid I hated the way upper-class society had rules for absolutely everything. Jessiebelle is so rich, marrying her would be the worst mistake of my life. Growlie is my only real friend on this stuffy estate. Ash: Mm-hm. Misty: I always wondered what it would be like to grow up in a place like this. Meowth: Who'd have thought being rich could be such a bummer? [The wall moves] What's that? Jessie & Meowth: Ahhhhhhh! [Jessie and Meowth are blasted out of the building] James: What now? [Jessiebelle and Vileplume appear at the hole in the wall] Jessiebelle: My sweet James, you can't escape! James: Leave me alone! Growlie: Growl, growl. Jessiebelle: Vileplume, stun them to sleep just like before! Vileplume: Vileplume! [Stun Spore again] Growlie: Grrrooo [he uses Flame-thrower] Ash: Now Pikachu, electric shock! Pikachu: Pika chu! Vileplume: Vil! Growlie: Grrr [another Flame-thrower] Vileplume: Vil! Jessiebelle: Ahh! Keep away from me! [she and Vilplume run off] Growlie: Growlith! James: Thanks Growlie, you're the best. Growlie: Growl, growl.
Magikarp: Magikarp, Magikarp, Magikarp, Magikarp. James' Father: It's lunch time in the pond, are you hungry my friends? [sees Jessiebell running towards them] Oh look, Jessiebelle. James' Mother: Jessiebelle. Oh, what a refined daughter-in-law she'll be. [Jessiebelle storms over the bridge, knocking the three into the pond] Jessiebelle: Ah! I can't believe it! I can't stand that Growlie! James' Father: She's as delicate as a flower. James' Mother: She's much to good for our delinquent son. Both: Oh, yes. [they laugh] [James is sitting watching them in bushes with his Growlie] James: Well Growlie, please take care of my parents, they need you here. This uppercrust highlife doesn't suit me, I'm better off living the lowlife with Team Rocket. Plus, I like my freedom. Growlie: Growl... James: Please don't cry Growlie, it's hard enough to leave you. [Changes into traditional Samurai clothes, and walks off, a sunset in the background] So long, Growlie. Growlie: Growl, GROOOWLITH, GROOOWLITH!
Jessie: Oh well, guess James chose to hang up his Team Rocket costume. Meowth: Huh, I guess all that money and luxury was just too tempting for James to give up. Jessie: I guess you're right. [The Meowth balloon flies overhead] James: Prepared for trouble? Meowth: Huh? Hey it's him! Jessie: James! Ah, make it double! [Jessie runs to the balloon which is low to
the ground, grabs Jessie's hand and I guess were not going to get rich this time either. James: Guess not. They wouldn't give me the inheritance. Jessie: There's always next time! We may not make a lot of money, but we sure have got our freedom. James: Yeah, double trouble time, right? Jessie: Sounds great to me James! [The two stare into each others eyes, not taking any notice of what is going on around them] Meowth: [running after the balloon still on the ground] Hey wait,
you forgot Meowth again!
Jessiebelle: Oh please, won't ya'll help me find my beloved James? Ash: Believe me miss, he's the one who finds us! Pikachu: Pikachu! Narrator: And so Ash dashes away from the magnificent estate, eager to get on with his Pokémon journey. But has our hero learnt anything valuable during his visit? Well, maybe. Jessiebelle: You're not running properly!
