Episode 14 - Electric Shock Showdown!

[Close up of a crumpled map. The map falls off
the screen and reveals the tired, happy face Narrator: After two weeks of being lost, our heroes finally reach Vermilion City! Congratulations! You finally made it. Group: Hip-hip hooray! Hip-hip hooray! Hip-hip hooray! Misty: Oh, I can't wait to take a bubble bath! Brock: I have to hit the laundromat. Ash: I'm going to find the Vermilion Gym...RIGHT NOW! [Ash starts to run off, but Brock hold him back.] Brock: Hold it! Ash: Huh? What's the matter? [Brock points to the ground. Camera pans down to find Pikachu lying on the ground.] Ash: Pikachu? Pikachu: Chu... [Pikachu's stomach starts to growl. Ash picks Pikachu off the ground and hold it in his arms.] Misty: It must be hungry. Brock: We haven't eaten anything decent for three days now! Ash: Hey, Pikachu? Are you hungry little buddy? [Ash's stomach growls] Whoaaaa! Heh, heh, I guess we're all a little hungry, eh Pikachu? Pikachu: Pika...
Electric Shock Showdown!
Ash: I think its hungry... Joy: We'll fix Pikachu up. [Joy notices that the group is staring at her.] I know why you're surprised. I look like all the other nurses don't I. My first cousin works in Viridian City and my second cousin works in Pewter City. I think I'm the prettiest one, don't you? Brock: Yeah! [The emergency room doors slide open and a boy
and a Boy: Hurry! You'll be okay Rattata! Hurry!! Brock: That Rattata's in rough shape. I wonder what happened. Joy: Sigh. That's the fifteenth one this month! Ash: What? [Emergency Room. All kinds of Pokemon are resting as their trainers stay beside them.] Brock: This is terrible! Joy: They all lost to Lieutenant Surge, the Vermilion City Gym Leader Ash: Wow... he must be a great trainer... Misty: So, Ash, are you scared already? Ash: No way! Misty: Well, you talk big. But when you see how tough it is to get badges you turn chicken. Maybe you should just quit now. Besides, the badges you do have you got out of pity! Ash: A badge is a badge! [Misty pokes Ash in the nose.] Ash: Heeeyyyyy! Misty: Why don't you try to prove how tough you are at the Vermilion Gym? Brock: From the looks of things, you'll have to be tough to beat this Lt. Surge. Ash: Do you really think he's that tough? Misty: We GAVE you badges, remember? How do you think we'll look if you get crushed to Surge? Ash: You have nothing to worry about, except maybe seeing my own incredible strength! [Ash tries weakly to punch Misty, but Joy easily holds him back.] Joy: All right; that's enough! Ash: She started it. Joy: Remember, this is a HOSPITAL. [Ash and Misty look around to see the hospitalized Pokemon's trainers glaring at them.] Joy: They say if two people fight, they really care about each other. [Ash and Misty cry out at the same time] Ash: Me care about her? [pointing at Misty] Misty: Me care about him? [pointing at Ash] Ash and Misty: Hummmphhhhh! [turn away with their arms folded] Joy: [Giggles, then hears a tone.] That signal means
your Pokemon is recovered!
Ash: Pikachu! Pikachu: Pi? Ash: I hope you're full, because we have to win big at the gym today! Pikachu: Pi! Ash: C'mon, let's go win a badge! [Another Chansey runs by with a Pidgey on a stretcher and another trainer at its side.] Trainer: Hurry! Just hold on Pidgey! Misty: I guess they must have just come from that gym. Pikachu: PI! [Pikachu jumps into the air and starts to panic] Pi! Pika pika chu! Pi! Ash: What? Don't be a coward! Pikachu: Pi, pikachu?! Ash: Huh? Don't I even care if you end up like that Pidgey? Pikachu: Pika pika! Ash: Yeah...I guess you're right [Pikachu sighs in relief] No problem! You won't end up that way because you'll win! [Ash pulls on Pikachu's arm as Pikachu holds onto the bench, refusing to budge.] Ash: Don't be a scaredycat, Pikachu! Pikachu: Pika pika Pikachuuuuuuuuu! [Pikachu shocks Ash] Misty: The way they fight must mean they care a lot...
Ash: So this is the Vermilion City Gym..... Misty: It's not to late to back out! Ash: Why should I back out when I'm gonna win? You just stick around and watch me! Misty: I'll stick around to see your face when you get creamed. Ash: If you think I'm going to lose, you're going to be disappointed! Brock: Are we ever going to go inside?
[Inside the Gym. The doors slowly creak open.
Inside, two Ash: Hello. I've come for a Pokemon battle to earn a Thunder Badge! Trainer: Hey, Boss, another victim for the emergency room! Surge: Which one? [Surge slowly comes out of the shadows, revealing he is much bigger than Ash and his friends.] Brock: Whoa! He's huge! Misty: Is he the Gym Leader you have to beat? Surge: [In a booming voice] Welcome to...Vermilion Gym! [Surge bends down and give Misty a big hug.] Oh, my next challenger's a cute one! Don't think I'll go easy on ya. Misty: Uh...excuse me, but I'm not the challenger... Surge: Huh? Then who? Ash: Me! That's who! Surge: Hmm? Oh, you! Okay, baby! [Surge pats Ash on the head. Ash angrily pushes Surge's arm away.] Ash: I'm no baby! My name is Ash Ketchum! Surge: Heh. I call everyone who loses to me baby! Huh? [Surge notices Ash's Pikachu.] Pikachu: Pi? Surge: Ha! A Pikachu! Hey, look, at this, baby brought along a baby Pokemon! [Surge and his trainers laugh] Ash: Cut it out! Why are you picking on Pikachu! Pikachu: Pika pika! Surge: Oh, I'll show you why...go Pokeball! [Surge tosses out a Pokeball and a Raichu emerges from it] Raichu: Raiiiii! Ash: It's a Raichu! [He pulls out Dexter] Dexter: Raichu. A mouse Pokemon of the electric element. Raichu is the evolved form of Pikachu. It can shock with over 100,000 volts, enough to render a Dragonite unconsious. Surge: Okay baby, if you wanna quit, now's your chance! Raichu: Raichu! Ash: There's no way we're gonna quit now! Surge: Ha! What could a baby like that do? If yas wants to be a Pokemon Master, you should make your Pokemon evolve as soon as you catch it! [Surge kneels down and pats Raichu on the head.] Ash: There's more to raising Pokemon than forcing it to evolve! Besides, I like this Pikachu just the way it is! [Surge and his trainers laugh.] Surge: Wrong baby! Electric Pokemon are only useful when they learn all their electrical attacks! You keep it puny like that its no more than a little pet! [As Surge talks, Raichu mimics his master's movements. Pikachu growls at Raichu.] Misty: Can Pikachu beat Raichu? Brock: I seriously doubt it. Especially if Raichu knows all of its electrical attacks. Surge: Okay, baby! Did ums just comes by to shows us your baby Pokemon? Ash: We came to win a Thunderbadge! Pikachu: Pika pika!!! Ash: Huh? Pikachu: Chu... [Pikachu's cheek pouches begin to spark.] Brock: That's unusual! Pikachu really wants to go into battle! Misty: I'm not surprised! Ash: Pikachu... I'm... counting on you. Pikachu: Pika pika! Surge: Oh well! I guess learning you're playing with the big boys can be a shocking experience! [Vermilion Gym Battle Arena. Ash and Surge take their places as lights flash on.] Announcer: The Pokemon Battle will now begin. Only one Pokemon may be used. The Gym Leader, Lt. Surge, has chosen Raichu. The challenger, Ash, has chosen Pikachu. No time limit. Let the match begin! [Bell goes off] Surge: Go Raichu! Raichu: Raiiiiii! Ash: Go Pikachu! Pikachu: Pika! Ash: Pikachu! Thundershock! [Pikachu sends off a Thundershock but Raichu is unaffected] Ash: Huh? What's that? Surge: Raichu! Show them a REAL Thundershock! Raichu: Raichuuuuuuuuuu! [Raichu sends off a Thundershock and sends Pikachu flying and crashing into the ground.] Raichu: Raichu. Surge: It's over baby. You really didn't think Pikachu could win, did you? Ash: Pikachu!! Brock: Call it back, Ash! Ash: But... Brock: Raichu's attacks are too powerful! This is a mismatch! Ash: Pikachu! Return! Pikachu: Pika, pika. [Pikachu refuses to return] Ash: Pikachu? Misty: Pikachu still wants to fight? [Pikachu turns and faces Raichu and growls] Surge: Heh. It's pretty gutsy for a toy. [Pikachu leaps toward Raichu] Ash: Pikachu! Surge: I enjoy playing with toys. But playtimes over! Raichu! Mega Punch! Raichu: Raiiiiiii! [Raichu punches Pikachu] Surge: Now a Mega Kick! Raichu: Chu!!!!!! [Raichu kicks Pikachu and sends it flying] Ash: Pikachu!!!
[Outside, Team Rocket is peeking in the window,
spying on the match] Jessie: [Giggles] Pikachu's really getting pounded! James: That Raichu really must be strong Jessie: Hey, I just thought of something. If Pikachu loses... James: That's right! Then its not worth stealing! We've wasted all this time. [Meowth is sitting by polishing one of his charms] Meowth: Maybe you can steal Raichu! [Jessie and James pummel Meowth and resume watching the match] Jessie: Come on Pikachu, can't you just zap it like you always do? James: Surge is getting ready to finish it off! Surge: Now, give us the big finale Raichu! Raichu: Raiiiiiiiiichuuuuuuuu-uuuuuu-uuuuuuu!
Ash: Pikachu! Pikachu: Pikaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
Who's That Pokemon?! It's Raichu!
Raichu: Raiiiii-CHU! [Vermilion City Pokemon Center. Pikachu is
lying bandaged up in a bed as Ash: Pikachu... I'm glad you're okay... Pikachu: Pika... [Turns away angrily] CHU! Ash: Oh.... Brock: Pikachu got hurt pretty badly. Ash: I can see that. Brock: No, no...I mean in spirit. Ash: What do you mean? Brock: Pikachu was totally overpowered by that Raichu Misty: That's right Ash... Ash: [Stands up] We'll try harder! We can win next time if Pikachu tries harder! Misty: I think Pikachu was trying his best the last time... [Ash Sighs] Joy: There is one way you might win... Group: Huh? [Nurse Joy walks into the room.] Joy: I'm sorry. I overheard your conversation and I thought-- Ash: How can we win? Joy: A while ago, I just happened to come across this. [Joy takes out a small case and opens it. Inside is a green stone with a lightning blot carved in it.] Brock: It's a Thunderstone! Ash: A Thunderstone? Brock: Yes. If you use it you can make Pikachu evolve into a Raichu. Ash: I could evolve Pikachu into a Raichu? [Ash takes the Thunderstone out of its case.] Then Pikachu might be strong enough to win... Joy: You must think hard before using the Thunderstone. Misty: If you make Pikachu evolve, Ash, you can't change it back! Brock: Pikachu will never be the same. [Ash looks at the stone in his hand.] Ash: If I evolve Pikachu, I could win that badge. On the other hand, to make it evolve just to fight, I would be just like Surge. [Ash turns and looks at Pikachu] Ash: Pikachu? What do you want to do? [Pikachu looks at Ash.] Ash: I really want to beat that Surge, but I also don't want to
force you to evolve if you'd be happier staying the way you are
now.
Jessie: He's letting Pikachu decide! James: If it evolves into a Raichu, it'll be stronger. Meowth: What's it gonna do?
Ash: Pikachu! Misty: Save your strength! [Pikachu stares at the stone for a second, then swats it away with his tail] Ash: Huh? Pikachu? Pikachu: Pika Pika pi pi pika! Chu! Pika pika pikachu!
Meowth: It's so brave! Jessie: So tell us what Pikachu is saying saying! Meowth: Pikachu won't change. If its going to pika Raichu it wants to do it just as it is! Jessie: You mean it's going to battle again as a Pikachu? Meowth: [Sobbing] Its going to fight in the name of all Pikachu! James: Really? That's so beautiful!!
Pikachu: Pika pika! Misty: You're both crazy! Brock: You should change your strategy, Ash! Maybe use your other Pokemon! Ash: It's hard, but it's not impossible! Pikachu and I will find a way to win! Pikachu: Pika! Pika pika chu!
Meowth: [Crying] Pikachu will prove it can beat Raichu! It will defend it's honor and Ash's! James: [Sobbing] Oh dear! That's magnificent!
Pikachu: Pika! ... chu... [Falls asleep.] Ash: Huh? Joy: It hasn't fully recovered its stamina. You should let it rest a little while longer. Ash: Hmm... Pikachu...
Misty: Oh, this whole thing has me so nervous! Ash: Oh really? Since when did you decide to worry about me? Misty: Not you! I'm concerned about Pikachu! I hope it'll be okay! Brock: Hey Ash! During the fight, Surge said he made his Raichu evolve as soon as he got it, right? Ash: Yeah... Brock: Then maybe there is a way! Ash: Huh?
Ash: Pikachu... our lucky star, is shining today! [Pikachu looks up in the sky and looks confused.] Pikachu: Pika? Misty: Where? I don't see it!. How can you see a star in the middle of the day? Ash: Oh, I don't mean its actually shining! C'mon Pikachu! Brock: It seems like they're ready to win, doesn't it? [Ash, Pikachu and the rest walk down the street
towards the gym. Suddenly they are Ash: Wha? Who are you guys? Jessie and James: To protect the world from devistation! [Meowth jumps up and whacks both of them with a paper fan] Meowth: Ix-Nay! Jessie and James: We forgot! Meowth: We are the challenger's cheerleaders, here to show our support to the brave Pikachu and Ash! Jessie and James: Rah!!! Meowth: In honor of the great Pikachu's bravery, we wish offer a cheer! Team Rocket: We want you! Pikachu! Pika-pika-pikachu! Kachu! We want you Pikachu! Pika pika pikachu! Meowth: Hip-hip-hooraaaaaaay! Okay let's split. [Team Rocket turns and runs away] Brock: That was really disturbing. Misty: Thanks for your support! Bye, Team Rocket! Meowth: How'd they know it was us? Jessie: Lucky guess! [Ash laughs, then gets a serious look on his
face as he heads back to the gym.]
Surge: Hey, Baby! You ready to take another beatin'? You didn't even make your Pikachu evolve. You ain't learned nothin'! Ash: Don't be so sure, Surge! Surge: Okay. Well, let's see! Announcer: The challenger, Ash, using a Pikachu. The gym leader, Lt. Surge. using a Raichu. The Pokemon will battle one on one, with no time limit. Let the battle begin! [The bell rings, and Team Rocket is peering into the windows of the gym.] Ash: Use the strategy we planned Pikachu! You can do it! Pikachu: Pika! Surge: A strategy, eh? So they've been planning a new way to lose! Go Raichu! Raichu: Rai!!!!!! [Slams Pikachu with it's tail] Chu!!!!!!!! Ash: Oh! [Raichu pins Pikachu down with it's tail and continues to slap Pikachu around.] Ash: Pikachu! Misty: Hang in there Pikachu! Brock: Pull to the side and break away!
Meowth: Not after the cheer we did! James: Maybe we did the wrong kind of cheer!
Raichu: Raiiiiiii! [Body Slams Pikachu] Pikachu: Chuuuuuu!!!!!! Ash: Ahhhhh! Surge: Finish it Raichu! Another Body Slam! Raichu: Chuuuuuu!!!!!!!! Ash: Watch out! [Pikachu's ears prick up and he jumps out of the way, as Raichu slams into the ground.] Surge: What? Pikachu: Chu? Team Rocket: All right! Ash: Do it, Pikachu, Agility now! Pikachu: Chuuu! Surge: Raichu! Use your Body Slam! Raichu: Chuuuuu! [Raichu tries several times to slam Pikachu, but Pikachu is moving too fast.] Surge: Uh, Raichu? Misty: It's working! Just like Brock said! Brock: Right! Raichu evolved too fast and it never learned the speed attacks it can only learn in the Pikachu stage! Ash: Okay! Use all the Agility you got! Pikachu: Pikaaaaa! [Pikachu runs circles around Raichu, making Raichu dizzy] Ash: Your Raichu's way too slow Surge! That's it's weakness! Surge: [Steamed] All right Raichu-- Give it a Thunderbolt. Shut it down!! Raichu: Raichuuuuuuuuuuuuhuuuuuuuuuuhuuuuuuu! [Raichu gives of a powerful Thunderbolt, which
breaks the ground and Surge: Heh heh! The end of the match! Huh?? [The smoke clears and Surge sees Pikachu still standing, his tail stuck into the ground] Surge: What. Ash: Pikachu! Brock: All right! Way to go! It used it's tail as a ground and
dodged the electricity!
James: That was quite a -- tail! [Meowth jumps up and smacks them both] Meowth: And now, both of you have been PUN-ished. Heh heh. [Raichu and Pikachu face off again. Raichu
looks beat.]
Raichu: Raiiiiiii! Chu? [Raichu tries, but can't get any electricity] Surge: Uh oh! Do something! Brock: It's over! Raichu ran out of electricity! Ash: All right! Quick Attack Pikachu! Surge: Raichu! Take down now! [Raichu tries, but Pikachu quickly overpowers it with Quick Attack and Tail Whip. Raichu faints] Surge: [Stunned] Unbelievable! Raichu: Chuuuuuuu... Ash: We did it Pikachu! Brock: Way to go! Misty: Fantastic!
Meowth: Victory!
Surge: Congratulations! Nice job Ash! Pikachu! As proof of your victory, a Thunderbadge! [Surge hands Ash the badge.] Ash: Thank you! [The badge sparkles in Ash's hand] Ash: Will you look at that! It's really a Thunderbadge! Surge: You should be proud! You and your Pikachu fought really good together! Ash: Thanks! Thunderbadge! And it's all mine! Pikachu: [Gives victory sign] Pika! Surge: Nice work Ash! You're no baby! Brock: Nice work Ash, Pikachu! Misty: You finally got your own badge! [Raichu claps for Pikachu. Pikachu thanks Raichu as Ash picks him up] Ash: Thank you Pikachu! This was your victory! [Gives Pikachu a hug] Pikachu: Pika! [Lovingly gives Ash a gentle shock] Ash: Wow! Now I can see lots of lucky stars! Pikachu: Pika, pika! Misty: Those two are quite a team! Brock: Yes indeed.
James: That Pikachu really is special. Jessie: That's why it's worth snatching! Meowth: Hey, after we steal it, maybe we can earn our own badges! Narrator: Ash and Pikachu won a Thunderbadge in an impressive performance, but they still have a long way to go to reach their goal, as does Team Rocket. And so the adventure continues, on and on. James: Drat! We've wasted this whole episode cheering the good guys! Jessie and Meowth: Hey! Narrator: Right James! Better luck next time!
