Plot Synopsis

Pokemon 2000: The Power of One

The film begins with Lawrence III, trying to decipher the prophecy.  The computer identifies the Titan of Fire as Moltres, the Titan of Lighting as Zapdos, and the Titan of Ice as Articuno.  He plans to capture these three legendary Pokémon, but the  reason is not to add them to his collection , but to carry out the prophecy so that Lugia, the Titan of the Sea will rise.  He feels that this Pokémon would be the prize of his current collection.

He travels to the Fire Island, one of three islands near Shamouti (the other two islands are the Lighting and Ice islands, where the other two Pokémon reside), and the closest to his current position, to capture Moltres.  He attacks the Titan with ice attacks, and when it begins to attack back at Lawrence's airship, he releases strange capture devices that take the Pokémon captive and bring it into the ship.

Meanwhile, close by, Ash, Misty and Tracey are travelling in the Orange Islands, taking a break from training.  Pikachu, however, is acting a little weird. As they relax on a boat, they are caught up in a strong storm, and are carried off course to Shamouti Island, while Team Rocket's Magikarp submarine is destroyed in the storm, as they follow 'The Twerps'.

Pokemon 2000: The Power of OneBack in Kanto, in Pallet Town, Ash's mum is working in her garden.  Professor Oak cycles up on his bike and they begin to talk  about how nice a day it is.  However, mere seconds later, a storm quickly arises, and heavy rain pours down, but then suddenly stops.  As the two try to figure out what just happened, it begins snowing, despite the fact that it's the Summer.  The snow stops as quickly as the rain, and then the two notice a mass of Pokémon heading their way, in a urgent hurry.  Professor Oak feels that something must be seriously wrong as Pokémon have a closer link to the planet than humans, and only act this strangely when something is seriously out of balance.

Pokemon 2000: The Power of One Back on Shamouti, Ash, Misty, Pikachu and Tracey come across a group of tribal people holding a festival.  They ask Ash if he would play the part of 'The Chosen One' in one of their rituals, and their leader reassures him that it is only a legend and that there is no truth, or danger, in it.  A teenage girl, Melody (who feels that the old legends and ceremonies are stupid, but who has agreed to be the maiden of the festival, now her sister is too old) approves of the choice, and gives Ash the customary welcome - a kiss.  Misty suddenly becomes jealous, and Melody jokes that Misty must either be Ash's sister or his girlfriend.

Pokemon 2000: The Power of OneThe festival begins, and Ash and co. are at a banquet with the of the leaders of the community.  Melody plays a tune on a flute,  and tells Ash what he must do to fulfil the prophecy; travel to the Fire, Ice and Lighting Islands and collect three glowing spheres that rest there.  He then must return to Shamouti and place them together.  Ash, inpatient as usual, decides to begin his journey early, even though the leaders tell him it is time enough to start in the morning.  Michiko accompanies him, everyone still unaware that the legend is true and has begun to unfold.  Ash asks Misty if she's coming with him, but she cheekily replies that if he wants someone to come with him, he should get himself a girlfriend.  When they are ready to leave, however, Pikachu grabs Ash's hat and runs off.

Team Rocket, stranded upon their destroyed Magikarp, see Ash and Pikachu pass by on the boat.  The group decides that this maybe a chance to finally capture Pikachu.  On a cliff upon Shamouti, a Slowking watches the ship pass by as well, and begins to quote the prophecy, ending it by saying, "What a mess."  Melody, Misty and Tracey also decide to set off on another boat (along with a concealed Team Rocket), worried about Ash, as the storm is continually getting worse.  Melody feels guilty because she feels that she is the one who got him into this mess, because of her people's 'stupid' traditions.

Back on the airship, Lawrence watches as Zapdos claims the land that belonged to the now captured Moltres.  The balance of the elements is shifting.

A television shows how all over the world, weather systems are beginning to break down.  At his lab, Prof. Oak and Ash's mum watch the TV.  It is reported that it seems that the centre of the disturbance is within the Orange Islands, worrying Delia as she knows that is where Ash is.  Prof. Oak calls Prof. Ivy to see if she has any idea of what is going on.  She tells him that her Pokémon are beginning to act erratically as well.

Back on the ocean, Ash, Michiko and Pikachu are nearing Fire Island, but the ship's rudder is torn off by the rough waves.  They crash onto the island's shore, and Pikachu runs off again telling Ash to follow.  Moments later, Melody's ships crashes onto the island as well, but not after sailing across some rough waves, flinging Team Rocket onto another part of the island.  The boat begins to slide off the cliff where they landed, but Melody releases the ship's sails, and the wind, with her controlling the sails, begins to push them up a set of steps towards where Ash and Pikachu are.  Back on the airship, the computer reports to Lawrence that Zapdos has travelled to Fire Island.

Ash climbs up a set of steps, chasing after Pikachu (passing a hidden Team Rocket).  When he reaches the top of the steps, he sees a small temple.  Coming closer to it, he notices a glowing red sphere.  Pikachu tells him that it is one of the treasure, but  before Ash can leave the temple with it, Team Rocket show up, as usual wanting Pikachu, but before they can do anything, the boat, piloted by Melody, comes up behind them, making them run before they get crushed by it.  Then Zapdos appears, attacking them.  Pikachu fires back a small electric bolt, and Zapdos shocks him back.

The humans are confused why Pikachu is attacking something much more powerful, but Meowth tells them that he isn't trying to hurt it, but communicate with it.  It tells Pikachu that now Moltres is gone, he lays claim to the land he abandoned.  But suddenly the airships breaks through the black clouds, and releases square bands which capture Zapdos, along with everyone else.

Pokemon 2000: The Power of One Within one of the chambers of the airship, everyone stands surrounded by a force field.  Melody notices a tablet near by, which is inscribed with the prophecy that she now realizes has begun to unfold. Lawrence appears, and releases the group from their confines.  While he reveals his plan to his accidental captives, the computer tells him that Articuno is on the move.

On TV, it is reported that Pokémon all over the world have begun to travel as close as possible to Shamouti.  It seems that a current (the beast of the sea) has formed at the bottom of the sea, with it's source at Shamouti, and this is what is creating the weather disturbances.  Prof. Oak and Prof. Ivy (on a helicopter) explain what they think may have caused to current to form.  They talk about the old prophecy of how disturbing the Titans will throw off the world balance.  Because they now seem to have been disturbed, ice is combining with fire to create water and the lightning is disrupting it, disturbing the ocean (as a large influence of weather comes from the world's oceans, the weather systems are being disturbed).  The scientists fear that if the current continues to act this way, a massive flood may occur, covering all habitual areas on the earth with water, killing all life.  Ash's mum, also on the helicopter, tells how she is worried about her son, as he is her whole world.

Back on the airship, the group decide that they have to free Moltres and Zapdos.  After using the power of several Pokémon, Moltres' cage breaks, and the Titan of Fire releases Articuno.  They both escape, destroying part of the airship, sending it crashing to the ground.  Everyone runs out through the whole the two Titans created, and run down to the island below - Lighting Island.  Part of the airship destroys the temple on this island, but the treasure rolls near to Ash.  He puts it into his pocket with the other.

Pokemon 2000: The Power of One Articuno appears and begins to clash with the other gods, while everyone climbs onto a boat to escape, but it goes out of control.  They are saved from crashing when a cyclone rises out of the water and lifts them up.  Team Rocket, however, are thrown from the boat.  A beautiful sound begins to come from the cyclone, reminiscent of the song Melody played at the banquet.  When the boat lands, they are back on Shamouti, at an altar where a Slowking stands.  He tells Ash to place the treasures within the altar - Fire placed in line with Fire Island and Lightning in line with Lightning Island.  But there is still one missing - Ice.

As the three birds continue to fight, destroying everything around them, a cyclone appears, revealing another Titan - Lugia, Guardian of the Sea.  It sings the tune heard earlier from the cyclone.  The other Titans attack it, and it fights back, while  Lawrence watches from his crashed airship.  Lugia is hit by the attacks of the others, and falls back to the sea, unconscious. Everyone is confused why Lugia has been beaten so quickly, but Slowking explains that Lugia cannot succeed unless 'The Chosen One' helps him by bringing together the spheres.

Remembering one of the lines of prophecy, Misty and Melody realize that Ash is 'The Chosen One'.  It doesn't mean that the earth will be turned INTO ash, but the earth will turn TO Ash.  Melody, thinking back to her position in the tradition, plays the flute, which is meant to restore Lugia's power.  It rises again, healed.  He tells Ash and co. that the flute doesn't have the power to quell the rage of the three battling, but when the spheres are placed together and harmonized with the sound of the flute, everything will return to normal.  He tells Ash that he must find the last sphere and bring it back.

Ash, scared by the task placed upon him, wonders why it is him that is too be 'The Chosen One' and worries if he has the ability to do it.  His Pokémon release themselves from their Pokéballs and they and his friends convince him that he can do it if he  tries.  Reassured by their confidence in him, he sets off to Ice Island, but the snow is so deep it is difficult to walk.  Pikachu points to the destroyed boat, and Ash, using part of the boat as skis, uses his Pokémon to pull him along.  However, the three Titans continue to attack, and despite having Lugia's protection, Ash isn't able to make it to Ice Island.  But help comes in an unusual form - Team Rocket.

Using a lifeboat and part of the crashed helicopter (the one Oak, Delia and Ivy were on), they help Ash get to the island.  Ash is able to get the last sphere, but he and Team Rocket are trapped upon the island when the three Titans attack.  Lugia takes Ash upon his back and they head to Shamouti, with Team Rocket hanging on.  Jessie, James and Meowth realize that their weight maybe holding Lugia back, so they let go, knowing full well that they are most likely falling to their deaths.  Luckily, however, they survive the fall.

When Ash and Lugia are close to Shamouti, Lawrence launches his capture weapons again, as the other Titans attack the Sea Titan.  It is beaten and falls into the water again, believing it has been defeated.  Ash is knocked unconscious, and is close to drowning.  Melody sets out to save him, giving Misty her flute to play, saying that prophecy or not, Ash can't do this alone, but Misty stops her.  She tells Melody that she should go, and that Ash is never really alone because he'll always have her.  Misty swims out and is able to bring Ash back to dry land.

He awakens, and travels back to the shrine, putting the last sphere in it's place.  Melody plays the song which harmonizes the three spheres, and a green liquid spills from the shrine into the water below.  The Beast of the Sea, the current that is causing the weather disturbances, rises out of the ocean and it's churning calms.  The Titans return to their dormancy on their islands, and the world is saved.

Ash's mother climbs down, with Oak, Ivy and the reporters, to where Ash is, and begins to tell him off.  Everyone is confused by this, but Delia explains that if she lost Ash, she would lose the only thing important to her.  Meanwhile, close by, Team Rocket are upset about the fact that no one has really seen the good things they have done, but Slowking, indicating the audience watching the movie, tells them that many people have.  They are happy to be good guys, but, when they decide to leave their life of crime behind, they realize that to start their own team they need money, and to get that money, they need to steal it.  Melody also realizes that her people's traditions are important, and finally accepts them.
