Pokeshipping
Their Relationship
At the beginning
of the show Misty followed Ash as she said that she would not let
him out of her sight until he paid her back for destroying her bike
in the first episode (although we now wonder if there may be another
reason 'cause she has always been intrigued by him). Also,
Misty was much more concerned over Pikachu when she fished them
out of the river than a "kid" like Ash. The two also fight,
a lot, as they generally have varying opinions over things, and
also because of the fact that at the beginning Ash was quiet immature
whereas Misty was much more grown up than most girls her age).
But then they say you only fight with someone if you truly care
for them. As the years have went on, though, Ash has grown
up a great deal, so there are a lot less fights. But still
with the tensions between the two, when one is in trouble, the other
generally gets into a panic, and will always come through for one
another. Also, as the show progresses, the two seem to fight
less and less.
Of course they are still maybe a bit too young for love but as
they get older, maybe it will become more than a crush and they
will progress beyond friendship.
Hints
Ash Catches a Pokémon
At the end of the episode, after Team Rocket have been beaten,
Misty comments about Ash, "I've never met anyone like him before."
Electric Shock Showdown
After Ash and Misty start to fight over something (again), Nurse
Joy tells them that "When two people fight, it means they really
care for each other." The two of course denied that fact,
but did both blush.
Island of the Giant Pokémon
When Ash, Misty and Brock are washed up upon the beach after escaping
from the sunk St. Anne, and being attacked by the Gyardos, Ash was
the first to regain consciousness. The first thing he did
was run over to Misty, shook her saying "Misty! Misty wake up!"
in a complete panic. But after Misty wakes he calms down and
all he says to Brock is "Hey Brock." He seems more
worried for Misty than for his other friend.
The Ghost of Maiden's Peak
At the end of the episode, Ash and Misty are in traditional Japanese
dress for the end of summer party Misty comes over to Ash and
says "Sorry I'm late." Ash looks up at her, stares
(at the same time it plays twinkly music and we see Misty, starting
from foot and traveling up to her face, the typical way of showing
a beautiful woman in Anime) and then begins to blush. Misty
then asks Ash to dance with her and he says sure, and he takes her
hand, still at little shocked at how good she looks.
Tower of Terror
After Ash is separated from his body by the ghosts, he flies outside.
When he sees Brock and Misty he decides to have a little fun.
He travels down to his friends, and hears Misty tell Brock that
she is getting worried. Ash, with a big smile on his face,
happily says, "So Misty, you really do care about me!"
Also, when Ash returns to his body, the first thing he does when
he is awake is turn to Misty, with a big smile on his, and says,
"Hi, Misty." Misty begins to smile and rubs the tears
from her eyes, and starts to blush. Misty is relieved that
he is okay, and Ash is happy to know that she does care for him.

March of the Exeggutor Squad
Misty blushes when Ash sees her in the skimpy, magician's assistant
outfit. Also, Ash says that it was a REAL cute outfit!
Attack of the Prehistoric Pokémon
When Ash and Team Rocket are caught in the explosion and buried
underground, Misty, trying to move the rocks from the hole, says,
"Hang on Ash, you still owe me a new bike!" It's very
sweet.
Princess Vs. Princess
When Misty was dressed in a kimono during the contest, Ash just
stared at her and said, "Ohhh." So did Brock.
Case of K-9 Caper
When Ash was taking part in the police training course, Misty says,
"I wonder if this training will be too tough." Brock tells
her not to worry as Pikachu will do just fine. Misty then
says that she is not worried about Pikachu but for Ash. Brock
is very surprised, as it is generally the other way around.
To Master the Onixpected
Everything (it happens three times) Ash does something to help
Bruno, he messes up and injures Misty in some quite painful looking
way. It very funny. Not a hint between the two characters,
but were probably put there by the writers to put the two in another
funny situation together.
All Fired Up
In the middle of the night when Ash can't get to sleep (as the
next day is the start of the competition), he gets up an goes out.
When he leaves, Misty says to herself, "I think he's scared."
She probably hasn't been able to sleep as he has been turning and
tossing for hours, and she seems very concerned about him.
Fourth Round Rumble
Misty is incredibly angry with Brock when he starts cheering for
Ash's opponent, Jeanette (she's very beautiful if you're wondering).
Friend and Foe Alike
When Ash is late for his match, Misty walks onto the battlefield.
She got a very rude call from Richie (it was actually Team Rocket),
Ash's opponent and friend, that morning and accuses him of making
Ash forfeit. She also picks him up by the collar and almost
beats the crap out of him. The commentator awkwardly jokes
that Misty is probably the best battler they've seen so far in the
competition.
Friends to the End
When Ash is in his room sulking after losing the match, Misty was
the one who came in to see how he was, not his mother or his other
close friend, Brock. She is very concerned about him, and
tries to talk him into getting something to eat or taking a walk
with her. She also tries to grab his hand. When he won't
let her help him, she begins to get mad, and the two get into another
argument.
Pokéball Peril
When Brock leaves the group, Ash and Misty travel back on the blimp,
with Team Rocket. Team Rocket begin to tease the two about
being a couple.
Jessie : " Hey, where's that other twerp?"
Ash : " Oh, you mean Brock."
James : " Jessie, I think we have a pair of very romantic creatures
in our cage."
Jessie : " You mean, Awww -"
Meowth : " - they're lovebirds!"
(Ash & Misty look at each other then look
away and begin blushing)
Ash : "You must be crazy!"
Misty : "Crazy is right. Never in a million years."
James : " But your blushing. Kissy kissy."
Ash : (in total despair) " It's not true."
If they did not have feelings for each other, they would have just
denied it, but they blush, which is like a confession of their feelings.
Also a few seconds later, Meowth calls Ash 'Romeo'.
Wherefore Art Thou, Pokémon
When Misty says that she bets the two trainers of the Nidoran really
like each other, Tracey tells her, "Hey, that's exactly the same
thing with you and Ash!" Misty and Ash stand their for a minute,
in silence, then they tell him he must be crazy, but again they
blush. When the Nidoran evolve when they kiss, Ash says to
Misty, "You think people change when they get kissed?" Misty,
blushing as usual, says to him "Guess we'll have to find out
for ourselves."
Naval Maneuvers
Misty meets a guy named Danny, and the two seem to fancy each other
(even though he is about 20). When Danny tells Misty's that
her beautiful name suited her, Ash goes "What!?" He seems
to be getting jealous.
Later, Misty and Ash get into another fight. Danny begins
to laugh watching them. The two are wondering what he's laughing
at, and he replies, "What do they say, you always hurt the one
you love?" The two become extremely embarrassed, as Danny
walks off. Misty runs up to him and denies everything, saying,
" Oh, you've got it all wrong. I'd never get involved with
a little kid like him (that's cruel calling a twelve year old
that). I prefer the more mature, intellectual type."
Ash seems very disappointed after this.
When Ash and Danny are climbing the mountain, Misty, passing in
a ski lift says hi to Danny and tells him to be careful. Ash, become
jealous, and, as his attention has been distracted, slips.
When they reach the top of the mountain, Misty runs towards the
two. Ash, thinking Misty is running towards him, is happy
to see her, but she runs straight past him and up to Danny.
When he sees the two talking, he says "What about me?" in
a really disappointed voice. Poor Ash. He defiantly
is the jealous type.
Misty Meets her Match
This guy called Rudy begins to fall in love with Misty, and she
seems to have feelings for him too. Ash seems jealous when
Rudy gives Misty more attention than he gives Ash, and when he asks
her to join him for dinner, Ash becomes a little depressed. Also,
when Rudy begins to comment about Misty's beautiful eyes, Ash gets
distracted and accidentally calls Charizard, which as usual does
not obey Ash and flames Misty. I wonder, was he getting jealous
of Rudy, as Misty had feelings for him, and couldn't concentrate?
Later on, Rudy asks Misty to leave Ash and Tracey and to stay
with him. Misty agrees to tell him her decision after his
match with Ash. When starting off a new round against Ash,
Rudy says, "I dedicate this match to Misty, the woman who saved
my sister and stole my heart." Ash gives quite a cheeky
reply of , "That's all very nice but I'm the one who's going
to win the match." He doesn't seem very happy.
When Ash begins to lose on of the battle, Misty begins to yell
at him to wise up and win the match. Rudy realizes that Misty
wants Ash to win and from what he says, " She wants him,"
he may suspect that she has feelings for Ash.
When the group are leaving, Rudy says to Ash, "I hope you know
how luckily you are?" Ash, as clueless and naive as ever,
doesn't understand. Rudy then tells him, "Don't worry.
You'll figure it out someday."
The Power of One
This film has some of the most important Pokeshipping hints.
During the festival to celebrate the Pokémon gods, the
group meet Melody, a young women who is the maiden of the festival.
The customary welcome is a kiss on the cheek. When she kisses
Ash, Misty gets really pissed off.
Melody asks Misty if she is Ash's girlfriend, and she as usual
denies it, but she keeps bringing it up over dinner. At one
point, Ash asks Misty to come with him to carry out the ritual.
Misty gets mad and in the Japanese version yells, "No. I'm not
your sister. I'm not your girlfriend. And I'm not your bodyguard."
Her words in the English adaptation are "If you want someone
to do what you want, when you want, then your should get yourself
a girlfriend."
In the Japanese version Melody says to Misty, "You like Ash,
don't you?" Misty blushes and denies it of course. Melody
seems to suspect something between them. In the English version,
Melody says that Misty will have to get use to Ash's stubborn attitude
when they get married. When she says this, Jessie tells Ash
that getting involved with the opposite sex is just asking for trouble.
When Ash is knocked unconscious, Melody gives Misty her flute
and tells her that she is going to get Ash. Misty hands her back
the flute, and says (in the Japanese version) "No. This is your
responsibility...and he is mine." In the English adaptation
her words are, "Ash is never really alone 'cause he's got...me."
One of the song's at the end of the Japanese version of the movie
is called 'Toi et Moi', and is considered
an AAM song. One of the lines refers to the girl saving the one
she loves from drowning.
The Heartbreak of Brock
When the girl begins to talk about marrying Brock, Ash says, "Can
you imagine Brock married?" Misty replies, "Someday
we'll be married." Ash nods, seemingly agreeing to what
Misty said. Seconds later the two realize what just happened,
and freak out.
Later on, Misty is telling Brock that if he doesn't go for this
girl, he may never meet another girl that likes him. She also
says, "It's better to like someone who likes you back than to
like someone who doesn't." Brock asks how would she know
that, and she awkwardly replies.
Gotta Catch You Later!
When Misty has to leave Ash, to look after her family gym, Misty
gives Ash a handkerchief as a good-bye gift. Traditionally a girl
gives a handkerchief to a guy she has feelings for when they are
parted (for instance, giving it to a soldier going off to war).
Manga
Toshihiro Ono, the author and artist behind the Pokémon
Manga, seems to support Pokeshipping. Below are a number of
scans from the four graphic novels.
