Character Profile
At heart, Meowth is a philosopher. He loves to take the time to
stare up at the moon and contempt life, often ending up singing
soft lullabies about love and the meaning of life. He is also passionate
about Pokemon rights, believing that Pokemon and humans are equals,
and has many times encouraged Pokemon to follow their dreams, just
as he did when he was younger.
Meowth seems to be the brains behind the Team Rocket that we know
best. He generally comes up with the plans, and keeps the
other two in check with the help of his scratch attack.
He grew up with no trainer, and left his birthplace
and travelled to Hollywood after watching a movie, thinking there
he would find enough food to fill the empty place in his heart.
While there he live on the streets with a gang of other wild Meowths,
led by a Persian. On one of many attempt to steal food from
a local restaurant he met Meowsey, a female Meowth. Immediately
he fell in love with her but she, being owned by a rich lady, told
him that he was no good for her, could never be as good as a human
and called him a dirty street Meowth. Determined to win her heart,
Meowth used all of his experience points to learn how to walk and
talk like a human.
The first word he learned to say was 'Rocket' and he feels that
if it hadn't of been he may never have joined the illustrious Team
Rocket.
Now able to talk and walk, he went to see Meowsey, but he didn't
get the reception that he hoped for. She said that he was
now worse than before, that he was not just a dirty street Meowth,
but a freak as well. After this Meowth, heart broken, left
Hollywood. Giovanni, the boss of Team Rocket, discovered him at
some point, and, due to his unusual talents, made him top cat, the
boss's own personal Pokemon ('Go West, Young Meowth').
It wasn't
until years later that he returned to Hollywood, a place that had
fallen upon hard times, and the once rich area where he had lived
was now little more than a dump. There he met his old gang,
and their new team member, Meowsey. Her owner had gone broke
and had abandoned her. Desperate, she joined the gang to survive.
Meowth fought the Persian to try and free her but when the battle
was over, Meowth winning, she went to the aid of the Persian and
told Meowth that she couldn't leave him after what he had done for
her, and that after all Meowth was still a freak.
Meowth is always willingly to stand up for what he believes in.
He is a great advocate of Pokemon/Human equality, and has even stood
against the rest of his organisation while protecting a group of
Pokemon clones his boss wanted to use in scientific research ('Mewtwo
Returns'). He was also one of only two Pokemon (Pikachu was
the other) who refused to battle in a fight to the death involving
Pokemon and their clones ('Mewtwo Strikes Back').
Although it may not always seem so, Meowth truly cares about his
team mates Jessie and James. When he was once blasted away to an
island where the locals were awaiting the arrival of the Meowth
of Bounty, he was giving everything he could dream of. But, the
locals wanted something back for their generosity. It is said that
the Meowth of Bounty would provide the island with riches by using
the 'Pay Day' attack. Meowth, as he had used all of his experience
on learning human speak, was never able to learn this attack. However,
wanting to give their friend a happy life, Jessie and James threw
all of their money (James even gave up his valuable bottle cap collection!)
into the stadium, ensurings Meowth's place at the head of the island.
When reviewing the money, he noticed one of the bottle caps and
realised what his friends had done. Meowth then decides that although
here he will be worshipped for the rest of his life, without his
friends he felts that it isn't worth it.
Character Info
In Japan, 'Nyaa' means 'Meow', so both names
are a joining of the word 'Meow' and 'Mouth'.
