Character Profile
Brock has had quite a hard life so far. After his father
left his family and his mother died (she is still alive in the Japanese
version), Brock, while only a teenager, was left to raise and look
after his ten younger siblings.
He was also a top Pokémon trainer and became the leader of
Pewter City's gym, but although he was good enough to take his abilities
further than only being the local gym leader, he was unable to leave
because of his responsibilities at home. However, being a
Pokémon trainer was never his true dream. He took more
pleasure in raising Pokémon than in making them battle and
wanted to become a Pokémon breeder. Sadly, the only
way he could succeed would be to leave home. He felt that
maybe he would never achieve his goal.
This was
until he met a young trainer called Ash, a guy who only received
his trainers license two weeks previously. At first, Brock
thought Ash was weak and too inexperienced to ever defeat him.
Brock brought Ash's Pikachu to submission with his Onix in one of
the shortest matches seen. Ash went off, believing that he
would never be good enough to beat Brock, but he found help in the
form of Flint, a disguised Brock's father.
In
the next battle, Brock nearly beat Ash for a second time, until
the sprinkler system was set off. This weakened Onix, and
put Ash into a situation where he could easily win, but Ash, feeling
it would be an unfair victory, walked out saying that he would beat
Brock eventually but that it would be in his own way. Moved
by Ash's compassion for all Pokémon, he give Ash the Boulder
Badge even though he hadn't won the battle. He also told Ash
to go and fulfill his dream of becoming a master for him as he knew
he would never accomplice his own dream. Luckily, though,
Flint realized that he could no longer hold back his son's life
and had to take care of his own responsibilities. Now free
to pursue his dream, Brock left with Ash ('Showdown in Pewter
City').
Brock is a kind of older brother / father figure for the two younger
characters. He feeds them, and their Pokémon with his
own special recipes, and makes sure they learn the correct way to
behave, but also to take a stand when needed. He also tutors
the two on the ways of Pokémon, as he is the most experienced
trainer. However, he often embarrasses them when he goes off
on one of his 'fits', leaving Misty to pull him off by his ear.
Brock
is teenage, testosterone-filled, young man. He loves women,
especially those older than him (e.g. Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny)
but doesn't have a lot of success. Older woman don't take
his advances seriously, and women his own age don't realize how
he feels , or if they do, he sometimes gets slapped in the face.
In one episode he, and James, fell under the spell of the ghost
of a woman who died two thousand years ago, who was still waiting
for her true love to return to her after he left to fight in a war.
He still became utterly obsessed with her, even though he knew she
was a ghost ('The Ghost of Maiden's Peak').
Another one
of Brock's 'loves' is Suzie, a famous, award winning breeder.
He was willing to become her protégé, but she refused,
telling him that she could not become his mentor as she still had
so much to learn. She left her store on Scissor Street to
travel and study more, giving Brock her Vulpix to train ('Pokémon
Fashion Flash'). A few years later, Brock receives an
e-mail from Suzie asking him to be her partner in a breeding contest.
He quickly agrees, and shows up to meet Suzie, complete with white
tuxedo and red roses. However, he discovers that Suzie's best
friend has also entered the contest, and that he seems to have the
same feelings for her as Brock does. Brock and Suzie go onto
win the contest with Vulpix, and Brock returns her Pokémon
to her ('Beauty & The Breeder').
Brock got a taste of his own medicine when a girl, Temacu, who was
totally obsessed with getting married, fell in love with him.
However, strangely Brock did not have one of his usual girl reactions.
Misty convinced him to pursue a relationship with her, saying that
he may never get a chance with another woman, but she ended up falling
first for James, and then for a doctor ('The Heartbreak of Brock').
Brock
left the group in 'Pokéball Peril', and was replaced
by Tracey, but he returned later in the next season. He left
to stay with Professor Ivy as he believed that he had a lot to learn
in her lab, and that he was maybe needed a little more by her than
by Ash and Misty (Ivy's house was an absolute mess as her and her
attendants hated cleaning and cooking). But the fact that
Brock fell for the Professor also had something to do with his decision
(most likely the main reason). However, after an 'incident'
at the lab, Brock ran off from Ivy's, and travelled to Pallet Town
to be taken in by Ash's mother, Delia. No one is sure why
he left as every time Ivy's name is mentioned, Brock freezes (actually
turning blue) and says something along the line of "I don't
wanna talk about it."
Brock returned to travelling with his closest friends, Ash and Misty,
throughout the Johto region. When they once again returned to Kanto
after Ash completed the Johto League, Brock returned to Pewter City
and his family for a little while before meeting up with Ash and
newbie trainer May in the Hoenn region.
Before leaving for Hoenn, however, Brock/Takeshi had some family
problems to resolve (Advanced Generation Side-Story - 'Takeshi!
Nibi JIMU o Sukue!'). His mother, Mizuho, who had left the family
a number of years before as she felt threatened by the number of
heirs she had produced, suddenly returns home. As she is a Water
Pokémon trainer, her and Flint/Munoh decide to reopen the
gym as a joint Rock/Water gym.
This upsets Brock/Takeshi's younger brother Jirou, who is about
to turn ten and was studing so he could take over the gym. He worries
that Rock Pokémon can never beat Water-types. Brock/Takeshi
reassures him that this isn't always the way and that the real appeal
of Pokémon training is upsetting common theories. The next
morning, Brock/Takeshi challenges and defeats his mother in battle,
and then, before heading off to Hoenn, give several of his Pokémon
to Jirou.
POKÉMON
- Vulpix (given to him by Suzie, a Pokémon breeder, in
'Pokémon Fashion Flash'. Brock gave Vulpix
back to Suzie in 'Beauty and the Breeder').
- Onix (given to his brother, Jirou, before he left for Hoenn).
- Geodude (given to his brother, Jirou, before he left for Hoenn).
- Crobat (evolved from a Zubat [caught in 'Clefairy and the
Moon Stone'] into a Golbat in 'Hassle in the Castle',
and then into a Crobat. Given to his brother, Jirou, before he
left for Hoenn).

at the Pincone stage ['Going Apricorn']).

has a strong will. Pierre is French for 'Rock.'
