PROFILE - At school, Yukino (or Miyazawa-san to her fellow students) seems like the perfect girl; she is beautiful, popular, always achieves top grades, is great at athletics and is always willing to help out her fellow students.

However, this is only a facade.

She is, in fact, a fraud. At home she displays her true personality; stubborn and selfish. She is the self-confessed 'Queen of Vanity.' Instead of looking amazing, not a hair out of place, she walks about the house in sweats with a bandana restraining her short hair. She thrives upon others admiration, and therefore constantly works to maintain her position at school. But no one outside of her immediate family knows about her true self.

That is until one fateful day a young man named Arima (who had previously confessed his love for Yukino) arrives at her home. Now he knows her intimate secret and is not shy about using it!

Blackmailing her, Yukino is forced to do a great deal of Arima's school work and duties. Needless to say, she's pissed off. However, the more time she spends with Arima, the more drawn she fells to him, until she realises that she is in love with him! But, believing that now he has seen her true self he has fallen out of love with her, she stands up to him and refuses to take any more abuse, regardless of the fact that her true side will be revealed to her classmates. Instead of going through with his threat, however, Arima tells her that the only reason he was blackmailing her was so he could spend more time with her.

Catastrophe averted, the two adversaries become friends, and then, soon after, boyfriend and girlfriend.

Yukino initially had some problems revealing her emotions to Arima. When he admitted, for a second time, that he loved her, she choked and couldn't return the words. Attempting to engineer a perfect moment to reveal her feelings, something always kept intervening, until one day she decided to allow her actions do the talking. By simply holding his hand in class, she was able to convey to him exactly how she felt. After this point, she was able to truly let down her outer image, and became much more bold and freer.

On another occasion, she had trouble with the intensity of her feelings for her boyfriend. When Arima returned from the Kendo Nationals, Yukino realised that she loved him now more than ever. But this had an adverse affect upon her; every time Arima came close to her, she would unconsciously tense at his touch. It wasn't until Arima confronted her, believing that she no longer cared for him, that she was able to let go of her awkwardness.

Yukino comes from a very loving and liberal home. Her parents feel that it is up their daughters to make the right decisions in life, and don't tell them what to do. She is very devoted to her family and is great friends with her younger sisters, Tsukino and Kano.

Until she met Arima and decided to allow her facade to fall, she was never really close to anyone aside from her close relatives. However, as the first semester of high school continues, she forges relationships with a number of people; first, Asaba, and then Tsubasa and Maho (none of these relationships had happy beginnings). She then became close to Tsubaki, Aya and Rika, before forging a strange link with Tonami. With these relationships, she has been able to see herself in another light, and has cast aside much of her previous need for success (though she still has an unhealthy obsession with grades). But one things now troubles her; she feels that, besides studying, she has no natural talents.

Although still greedy and proud, Yukino evolves greatly throughout her time as a freshman. She is able to mellow out, and becomes much more secure within herself (to such a point that Arima wonders if she really needs him). She is always willing to help out a friend, and when she feels that Arima is hurting, never fails to help calm him. She is warm, sensitive and compassionate.
