Rin Nadeshico

Rin Nadeshico ( born in 1984 in Chiba) has turned 19th century depictions of the Yamato Nadeshiko on their head by inserting modern, young independent women in their place amongst historical backdrops of Mount Fuji and other similar cultural emblems.

Unfortunately Rin Nadesico’s website seems to be offline at the moment, hopefully temporarily.

Hikari Shimoda

Hikari Shimoda was born in Nagano, Japan in 1984 and studied at the Kyoto Saga University of Art. With children as a motif she, as she explains in her own words, “pick(s) up their warped attitude or feeling toward the outer world and express(es) it through their physical body which has not been balanced yet. Through their unstable presence, I can express deep feelings I have inside, such as grief, alienation, and love.”

Takashi Murakami

Takashi Murakami is one of the most influential Japanese artists currently working. With his anime/manga inspired Superflat movement, he has worked with many household names, such as Kanye West and Louis Vuitton, and in 2008 was included in Time magazine’s “100 Most Influential People” list; he was the only visual artist included. He also runs the Kaikai Kiki art production company, which includes artists such as Chiho Aoshima, Aya Takano and Chinatsu Ban.

Chiho Aoshima

Chiho Aoshima is one of the foremost artists of the ‘Superflat‘ postmodern art movement, and a member of Takashi Murakami’s Kaikai Kiki Co. collective. Her surreal dreamscapes combine everything from cute but scary creatures to erotic fantasy, inspired by both modern and traditional art.
